Specialist HR recruitment consultancy, Macmillan Davies, has expanded its London-based team with the hire of experienced recruiter Natalie Belton to the new role of Senior Recruitment Consultant. In her new position, Natalie is specialising in the recruitment of high-quality, experienced HR professionals, for professional services and property organisations across London and the South, where hiring has surged this year, with London firms reportedly at a five-month high according to the latest Business Barometer from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

What Gen Z Wants

Gi Group has gathered ideas and views from across its own workforce to find out what makes Gen Z tick. Gen Z, a cohort which includes people aged between 17 to 28, is the most recent addition to the recruitment pool. They are now the backbone of many industries and it’s fair to say they are a talented and agile generation of workers, with an array of specific workplace red flags.

Workforce challenges such as skills and labour shortages outrank rising costs and interest rates as one of the top concerns facing mid-sized businesses in the next six months, according to the latest research from accountancy and business advisory firm BDO. Nearly a third (32 per cent) say it is one of the three biggest challenges they face, second only to supply chain pressures.

The Cost of Admin

Research from CM.com, a provider of cloud software for conversational commerce, has revealed that on average, managers are losing seven working days each year answering general operational or administrative questions. In line with this, a quarter (24 per cent) are suffering with increased stress due to the additional pressures that come with dealing with general employee queries.

Are You Covering That?

Making use of a professional network comprised of both tech professionals and recruiters, Nigel Frank International has conducted a survey to gauge current attitudes towards cover letters. The results show a majority sharing the opinion that cover letters aren’t necessary, and only a very small minority fully in favour of them.

Key recruitment trends from the latest UK Life Sciences Labour Market Trends report by Cpl Life Sciences and market data analysts Vacancysoft, show that in 2022 there were over 4,100 new scientific vacancies published in the ‘Golden’ (Cambridge, London and Oxford). This translates to a slight decrease from 2021, when there were over 4,500 jobs, resulting in a year-on-year fall of 9.1 per cent.

A new study from learning company Pearson has found that globally workers are focused on developing their human skills, even as they see a future dominated by technology-driven work and automation. The latest edition of the Pearson Skills Outlook series, saw Pearson partnered with Google to examine how and why people in the US, UK, India, and Brazil are looking to upskill as they face a rapidly changing economy.
