On March 8, 2025, hundreds gathered at Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton to honour the memory of Ryan McCabe through the inaugural ‘Run for Ryan’ 10K event. Additionally, a crowd of over 50 runners gathered in London, headed by Dan McGuire, Shaun Weise and Simon Brown.
Ryan McCabe, a visionary leader and co-founder of Odro, tragically lost his life in June 2024. He was renowned for revolutionising video interview technology and was deeply cherished as a husband, father of three boys, and friend to all who met him. Ryan was a master at bringing people together, and the ‘Run for Ryan’ brought the entire community together whilst raising in the region of £25,000 for the Ryan McCabe Foundation.
There has been an outpouring of love and admiration for the event. Not only from people participating in Glasgow on Saturday, but also hundreds taking part virtually from Sydney to Miami, Hong Kong to Canada, with many runner hubs forming across the UK too.
On LinkedIn, people have been sharing their stories and photos from the event:
- “Ryan’s passion for life and helping others was evident in all he did. This event is a testament to his enduring impact,” said Roisin McCabe, Ryan’s wife.
- “It would have been everything he loved, all his family, all his friends, all their kids and everyone having a great time – I guess that is the best thing you can do to remember someone – Do all the things they loved with all the people they loved.” – Stuart McRobbie.
- “What a fitting tribute to the man to see a LinkedIn feed this morning not full of doom and gloom or silver bullets, and instead people with smiles on their faces, sharing memories and stories about a man who did his utmost to put a smile on everyone’s face when you saw him.” – Mike Whatman.
- “Yesterday was an incredible testament to Ryan McCabe. It’s rare and unique to meet an individual who makes such a positive impact on everyone. Ryan was that man. It was an honour to be surrounded by so many others that thought so highly of Ryan.” – Laura Clarke
The event has so far raised £25,000, which will be distributed by the Ryan McCabe Foundation to charities Ryan supported, including Andy’s Man Club, Teenage Cancer Trust, Eilidh’s Rainbow, MacMillan Cancer Support and Make a Wish Foundation.
The success of the ‘Run for Ryan’ event highlights the recruitment community’s dedication to preserving Ryan’s legacy and supporting meaningful causes. Plans are already underway for next year’s event to continue this tradition. The Run for Ryan is just the beginning of a range of events which will take place in Ryan’s memory. Future events can be expected to continue to continue to bring everyone together, while supporting the causes close to Ryan’s heart.
